BBG Loves: 'Can't Go Back' by Kojey Radical

Review by Sophia Razvi

Kojey Radical’s new record is a solo celebration of serotonin. Nearly two years on from his last project, Can’t Go Back is the perfect answer to the rapper’s perceived absence. ‘Frequent flyer, miles got my demons playing catch-up’; Kojey’s familiar heartfelt lyricism eases the listener in with effortless flow and a funky bassline.

As he switches between husky rap verse and triumphant falsetto, the chorus is a particularly pleasurable combination when paired with the uplifting brass sounds. Speaking for the first time on the song and its inspiration, Kojey reveals he ‘wore a brave face like a suit of armour’ during his darkest moments for fear of appearing weak. Now, as he rediscovers the light again, he sings a song of freedom for those who may be treading a similar path.
