For her BBG x MPB competition winner’s series, Pip Bourdillon turns her MPB kit to the story of summer. It’s one we think we all know. Autumn has that funny way of always calling. But as we quietly observe Select Model’s Blu, McDaniel, Hector, and Anna, we discover a love letter to new story chapters, opening and closing.
Chapped lips, picked apart by youth and sunshine and cigarettes and wind, blow on a milky builder’s tea that has too many sugars in it. The chipped china mug soon warms mischievous fingers and the chewed nails that adorn them. As summer sets and autumn dawns, with it comes new understandings of who we are and who we could be. It takes a moment to pause, breathe and navigate the gear change, but Blu and the crew are helped along the way by stylist Bryony Hatrick and groomer Jacinta Andolini.
One minute you’re sat on the grass, trying to remember the name of the song you heard last night at that party. The next, it’s your face in the mirror, eyes growing misty, blue, stepping into your suit for your first day of the “real” world. But that reflection holds secrets, ones you can stuff beneath the collar of your stiff ironed shirt. Memories of bygone days you can take out of your pocket when sat on the bus - your morning commute - look at them, and fold them up again, ready for a rainy day. Because, after all, it’s autumn in England - one is surely coming.
Pip used the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens, Manfrotto Befree Advanced (Twist Lock) Tripod and Peak Design Everyday Backpack from MPB in this series.
