A lone hill sprawls across grassy lands, peaking in the sky like a distant beacon. The air is cool and brisk, leaves flickering on the branches of looming trees. It’s nature’s very own ripple effect, and Will and Olivia are joining in on the surges of the world. The two siblings, making up the music duo, Wasia Project, are giving just as much as they are receiving - constantly feeding into the energy around them and nourishing both themselves and others through intuition and intention. With their EP scheduled to release this summer, Will and Olivia are filled with a palpable energy that buzzes around the room, like a silent song only they can hear.
In a dimly lit studio space, Will and Olivia, sit together amongst a variety of instruments scattered across the room. Olivia sits on the floor and Will is on a chair beside her. Will holds himself with a soft and breezy spirit, tipping his head up in thought before speaking or soaking up what his sister says. Olivia buzzes with a buoyancy that is both warm and exuberant, a blissful look on her face as she nods her head in agreement whilst her older brother speaks. They enthusiastically share their creative process for their upcoming EP, and how it’s become a conceptual body of work like nothing they’ve ventured into before. Motion seems to be the theme of our conversation as we flow together through many topics. We chat like we have all the time in the world, and perhaps, in that moment, we do.
Will and Olivia are two currents flowing at their own speed and authority, but always weaving in and out of each other. The siblings dance around each other in a space that is completely their own, bouncing off the other’s words and emotions. They recollect childhood memories and discuss what it means to be truly present. We speak right before the two are about to start touring. Halfway through our chat, they pause to draft up a post for social media, having just sold out their shows in New York and Los Angeles. As Olivia gives Will pointers on what to say, I take a moment to soak up how special it is to share spaces with other artists who are so driven and passionate in their craft, especially Olivia and Will, who always seem to lead with sensitivity and vulnerability. Wasia Project is climbing to new heights, plunging head first into the new and the valiant, and turning the tide as they create their own boundless waves.
There may be no better preview to share to describe their sibling relationship than this:
Will: Yeah, I mean, what the fuck is genre? It's one of those things, isn’t it? I know there are genres, I know there are loads of different sides to music, and with human nature -
Olivia: Oh, God. I have a pet peeve of Will saying ‘human nature.’
There's much more where that came from. Photographed by Bex Aston, the siblings skip around in a chilly London park as the wind rips through their hair, and also get their lunges in for the day.
