We have to tend to hope. We have to gently prune it, discarding thorns of negativity. We have to water it gently and let light in. It isn't easy to maintain and requires a constant effort and devotion. But when hope grows past that single bud, there's nothing more beautiful than letting it grow wild and free.
In this issue's editorial, "Rooted Together," Rebecka Slatter captures the boys as they tend to both their garden and their friendship. They run around and play like they did in childhood. They let the day breathe and soak in the light like the sun to a plant's leaves. At least this day is simple. Today, they grow together, joined at the root.
