The Kaleidoscope

Hovering in slanted shadows and bouncing through light, Kelvin explores limitless opportunities to waltz with London’s heart and soul. Each street holds its own beat and rhythm, similar to the various ensembles Kelvin is adorned in. Lucy Mackay styles expertly to match the energy of each environment, blending streaks of sunlight with a shining yellow trench coat, and popping baby pink pants against an industrial backdrop of greys. On a bustling street, Mackay picks zesty tones of yellows and greens as passersby pick citrus to take home from a fruit stand. Then on a quiet side street, deep, delicate tones invoke images of the English seaside, with ink-blue pants the colour of the sea's bottomless lull and an earthy-green shirt mimicking the ripple and sway of long grass kissed by a sea’s breeze.

Johanna Nyholm engages in a partner dance with them all, choreographing a two-step between her camera and the world at large. She snaps movement into stilled images that hold the integral motion of the world spinning around each frame. Even in the monochrome of a black-and-white image, the contrasting shadows and lights hold stories of waving colour all around. Nyholm is a bird in flight as she shifts and soars through skilled angles and focus, knowing exactly when to dive into an intimate portrait or seek a wider perspective. Each photograph is a quiet whisper into a magnificent moment, accentuating styling choices that play with the cityscape like a lost language of love and adoration. As the kaleidoscopic city spins around like a disco ball of crowning jewels, Kelvin listens intently to the silent steps, knowing when to leap, lean, stride, and spin.
