Harry The Surfer Dude

12 February 2013

As soon as we saw the gorgeously longhaired 21-year-old Harry at Next Model Management all we could think was "Surfer Dude.... yeah..... adore you.... like". Following on from Cecilie Harris' portraits of him here, flicking his hair and working a skateboard to the max, we wanted to catch up with him to get a little below the surface.

We do love a boy that's creatively minded and Harry is no exception, with his passion for film, documentaries and seriously good music we're sure that he'll be exactly where he wants to be in 5 years. Fancy taking us with you on all your amazing adventures Harry?

What has your modelling journey been like so far?
It's been fun; it's nice to put on clothes I wouldn’t normally wear for shoots, and London Collections Men was cool.

What are you looking forward?
The access to an industry that got a lot to offer in other things like photography and video, that’s something I want to get into, like film.

What do you do in your spare time?
I’m a student as well as model, soit's busy times. I’ve just started a documentary as well, which I’m doing as a but of a hobby. It’s on the Notting Hill Carnival, like behind the scenes.

What degree are you doing?
I’m doing religion and theology up in Manchester; I’m in my second year at the moment.

Describe yourself in three words.
Tall. Haha.
Intelligent.
Always up for a laugh.

If you were an animal what would you be?
I’d have to be a fish! I’ve got a tattoo of a fish on my arm and they’re my favourite animals. Yeah, the sea, there’s so much we don’t know, they have a much better idea of what’s going on under there than we do, so that would be cool.

Tell us about the rest of your tattoos, where did you get them done?
I got these two on my right arm done in a tattoo parlour in London by the same artist, and these on my left have been done over the last three years in India, up in the mountains, in the Himalayas. And this last one is just a doodle done in a friend’s apartment in Germany.

Do you travel a lot?
I have been travelling quite a bit over the last three years. It something that I want to continue to do, and hopefully another plus of this job will be that I get to travel to some nice places.

Where would you like to travel most with modelling?
I’d love to go and have never been to America, so America is a dream for me.

What is your favourite place in the world?
My favourite place would have to be the Andaman Islands just in between Thailand and India.

Do you like music?
I do, I love music. I was brought up listening to really good music actually; my parents are really into old school rock and roll and music with a lots of blues and country influences.

So what would a 5-song playlist for us have on it?
I’d have to put a bit of disco in there first. So a bit of George Benson “Give Me The Night”.
Bit of blues with Sonny Boy Williamson “Your Funeral And My trial”.
Tom Waits “Ice Cream Man”.
I’m also really into reggae, so I’d put in Bob Marley “Burning And Looting”.
And I’d finish with The Rapture “House of Jealous Lovers”

Do you play any instruments?
No I don’t sadly, just listen. Yeah I would love to learn and I gave it a shot when I was younger but just didn’t have the patience.

Do you have any secret talents?
I was Under 9’s National Judo Champion haha! That’s about as far as my secret talents go. I moved out of London for school though so couldn’t keep it going.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Hopefully behind a camera somewhere in South America, I most want to go to Brazil. It’s booming over there so I want to try and get involved in the production side of things over there.

Cheers Harry, we're excited to see what you get up to next.
