Kurt: The One Man Band

24 September 2013

Turns out that Tom Fourie isn’t the only South African beauty to cross our paths recently, and we couldn’t wait for the SA born, London based dreamboat Kurt Herbst to fill us in on his thoughts on the modelling industry, some of his favourite tunes and what he likes to do in his free time. Music is one of Kurt’s dear passions - is it really a coincidence that he shares the same first name of one of rock music’s biggest idols? We think it was meant to be, seeing as he plays guitar, sings, and plays the drums. What’s not to love?

The FM Models boy was styled by Alexandra Bickerdike and photographed by Amber-Grace Dixon, who not long ago shot Denzel Wright in a stunning editorial series, as well as recently photographing Niall Underwood in a portrait series for Boys by Girls. Each time we have Amber photograph for Boys by Girls, she always brings something different to the table. With the ability to shoot in multiple different styles, Amber's photos give off that fresh and new vibe that we love. Read on to hear all about Kurt and and what has to say.

We would love to hear how you got into modelling, do tell.
I got scouted on a portfolio shoot in Cardiff.

How has your modelling journey been so far, what have you been up to and how have you enjoyed it?
It's been pretty fun! I've been doing one or two editorials a week lately. I've recently shot a 10 page editorial for Glamour, and an 8 page for Harrods!

What do you do when you're not modelling?
I write music, play guitar, sing, and eat... a lot.

Give us three random Kurt facts.
1. When I was like 8 I got bitten by a shark, it was only about a foot long.
2. I'm right handed, but play drums with my left.
3. I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

What are your top three played songs on your iPod?
I'm guessing it would be the whole of the two new Stone Sour albums, iPhones don't really have a "Most Played" playlist anymore.

What have your parents taught you?
My parents taught me to be nice!

Who would you be and why: Superman, Batman or Spiderman?
Batman! He has the best alter-ego, and doesn't need superpowers to kick ass.

Do angels exist?
Most probably.

What are you passionate about?
Good music!

Who do you want to be when you grow up?
Grown up me.

Ha, very good answer Kurt. Make sure to stop by soon!

Words by Justine Hyde-Mobbs.
