LFW: Topman Design AW12

27 February 2012

Things were looking very dark and sinister at last week’s Topman Design’s show during London Fashion Week menswear day. Dominated by assorted shades of black and grey, the high-street brand’s AW12 collection was characterised with tough leathers and sharp suits creating a dramatic and opulent look for London menswear scene.

The inspiration for this collection came from the 1980s cultural figures Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe, which resulted in abundance of monochrome, belted greatcoats and slimline double-breasted suits accompanied by leather and fur trimmings.

As demonstrated last week, Topman Design team have done it again – producing not just timeless, but also beautifully cut clothing made from fine fabrics such as mohair, felted wool and cashmere perfectly suited for a modern-day man.

And the best thing of all? It is that little bit of luxury that we can all afford.

In collaboration with Elite Model Management London, we caught up with some of the boys. Check out extracts from Misha and Benjamin's interviews below.

If you could walk to any song, what would it be?
Queen – “Don’t stop me now”.

Describe what it is like to be on a catwalk?
I get a bit of a rush… My first ever catwalk show was last season in Milan, and yes, I still get a little nervous before I go on! For me the best part about doing the shows is the very moment you step off the catwalk because you get that feeling of satisfaction - all of a sudden you become awake and you’re buzzing.

How was your fashion week experience?
Quite relaxing actually, I came in just two days ago so I haven’t been hanging around for too long. Past couple of days were all about late finishes and early starts but that is expected of Fashion Week so in a way I was prepared for that. I have been to quite few castings, but they were all packed into just two days so it wasn’t that bad at all.

How do you prepare for the shows?
I turn up on time. That’s pretty much it.

Describe what it is like to be on a catwalk?
I still get a rush before I go on it and a great buzz afterwards. I’ve been doing it for about a year and a half so I don’t get nervous anymore – nothing can go that wrong unless you trip up. It is literally just walking up and down.
