LCM: Topman Design AW13

10 January 2013

In the world of men’s fashion according to Topman, colour is making an outstanding comeback; and after their show of layered coats and tailored jackets, the Boys by Girls team can’t help but agree: Next winter is going to be pretty damn cool (no pun intended).

With a steady build up of colour, the show began with a stream of boys dressed head to toe in clean creams and whites. Nice and wintery. Think snow. Think explorers. Think fur rimmed hoods and lace-up hiking boots. Think massive down bombers and parkas that girlfriends everywhere will assuredly be claiming as their own. Now build up the orange and red, times it by awesome and you’ve got Topman’s AW13 collection. We love. By the end of the show, looks had become more refined with darker, more mature shades of cherry red and burgundy.

Reece Sanders (FM Models) looks wintery cool as he waits to walk out on the catwalk.

Teamed with beautifully bright knits (was that a hint of peach we saw?), Topman sent out some seriously dapper suits, cut so clean and all in classically British shades: we’re loving the navy and pop red tones. We also adore that drawstring waist parkers were atop suit jackets and finally layered over chunky, yet modern Argyll knits.
Accessories included upscaled backpacks, fingerless woollen gloves and shrunken beanies, while stone coloured shirts were styled with hints of sun-bright neckties peeking out from open collars. Finally compasses and hipflasks hung from their packs; the ultimate urban explorers.
Captured backstage by Becky Maynes, we spotted the beautiful Elite Models London 2012 winner Connor Doherty modelling an insanely gorgeous cropped, cream boiled-wool jacket complete with THE most perfect oversized mariner’s collar. The look was matched with a chunky turtleneck fisherman’s jumper, an icy metallic gold belt and oversized trousers tucked into socks and boots.
Winter has now been confirmed as our favourite season for menswear, and we’ve still got two days left of the London collections to go. Just one question… Any chance we can get those boots in a size 4?

After the show we caught up with two of the Topman AW13 models and familiar faces to us, Conor Doherty (Elite Models) and Simon Kuzmickas (FM Models). Portrait images below by Cecilie Harris.

Conor is already a Boys by Girls sweetheart and we wanted to hear all about his experience walking for such a super brand and collection as Topman. FM boy Simon, we met just before running away for Christmas treats in lands far away, and captured a lovely editorial with him. So something to look forward to for all. By the time we got to Simon just minutes after the show, he had already ruined his beautiful hairstyle created by the Topman AW13 team headed up by Matt Mulhall at Streeters, with a hat and cigarette in his hair. That's our boy.

Conor, what was it like to walk for the Topman AW13 collection?
It was my first big show, so it was really fun. I was a bit nervous when we were lining up, but once I got out there I was in my zone and really enjoyed it!

What did you think of the Topman Autumn Winter 2013 collection?
The collection was really nice, there were some lovely clothes there. The boots were very fucking nice. It was so warm as well whilst we were queuing up! haha

And lots of white, we like white!
Yes lots of white. It was more cream though, but yeh lots of that this season. And lots of bright oranges and reds. The contrasts in the colours was amazing. The white, red, orange and black.

Are you excited for the rest of today?
Yep, I've got another show as well today so I'm off to that in a bit. So now that I have one show under my belt, I already feel confidence for the next one and really look forward to it.

Have you got any fashion advise for other dudes?
Don't try to copy everyone else, be yourself and wear what you like wearing.

Simon, what was it like to walk for the Topman AW13 collection?
It was cool. I have walked for them before, so it was really nice to walk for this collection as well. The show was really well organised, this is my third Topman show I'm walking for.

What did you think of the Topman Autumn Winter 2013 collection?
It was really interesting, and there was some really lovely jackets in particular. Very cool.

Have you got any general fashion advise?
Be yourself and wear what you like.

Are you busy for the rest of this week?
Yes, I'm catching a flight to Milan this evening so should be a busy and fun week.
