“If you're a nice, approachable person who asks questions and is interested in people, you can learn so much about the world. When I was eighteen, I remember thinking that I'd figured life out. I didn’t know anything!”
Spring cheers its last hurrah with the promise of hotter days ahead. Rivers roar, and creeks rumble in celebration of a new season, as birds sing their songs to the rhythm of budding days to come. Johnny Orlando is singing along as he, too, enters a new era of sound and style, with his sophomore album, Songs For Young Lovers, setting roots in new soil.
As Johnny zealously speaks about his upcoming album, he describes the songs with vibrant, playful imagery—‘Emilia’ is a pink and blue vintage YSL polo, and ‘Have Your Lovin’ is dark and glittery. As a big believer that living alongside one’s craft is vital for optimal creation, Johnny immerses himself in his music both emotionally and physically. Four guitars hang on the wall behind him, and two more are splayed across his living room turned studio. Connection and honesty drive Johnny’s inspiration and passion, as he learns the ins and outs of what it takes not only to write his songs, but to produce and record them as well. Johnny is not shying away from the light. Instead, he celebrates constant growth, learning, and the new experiences in front of him, ready to be centre stage.
Johnny’s sophomore album, Songs For Young Lovers, is out now.
