Edvin Ryding for Issue 18

26 June 2025

“I realise, at least with some of the talks I'm having with my therapist, we're always discussing the process of separating the professional me and the private me. That's a rabbit hole to get into, but I'm a firm believer that everything has its purpose.”

The line between spring and summer is unavoidably hopeful. Fog brushes the sleeping earth in early morning light, while blooming flowers and sprigs of new leaves freckle all around. Edvin Ryding’s hope is not seasonal, though. It is, on the other hand, very well seasoned; he nurtures self-assurance and awareness all year long, and it shows.

We glide into comfort right off the bat. I watch Edvin sip from a mug between evocative and thoughtful answers, as he proudly expresses that drinking coffee in the afternoon is “the Scandinavian way!” We grin widely over the promising prospects of our balcony gardens, as well as an alternate universe where we both are thriving psychologists. We talk about the characters he’s had the pleasure of tending to carefully, including Erik Sundqvist, in the highly anticipated film, 28 Years Later.

Edvin talks a lot about impostor syndrome and trying to remember that this isn’t all one big scam. “That’s what I’m trying to tell myself” is a common phrase throughout our conversation as he battles his inner critic and learns to feel happy for himself. We are always growing with every root pulled and new seed planted. As the sun rises where I reside and sets over Edvin in Stockholm, I can say for certain that I sense a little more hope blooming in the air around us both.

28 Years Later is in cinemas now.

Take in the full 22-page cover story beyond this teaser. Our brand new Spring Summer 2025 issue, "A Little Light," is available to buy online.
