“I always try to ask myself more often, ‘Why am I doing this?’ The why needs to be the base. If I don't have a good answer to the why, it will never be enough. No amount of prestige or awards I can stack in my bathroom will fill that void of why.”
It’s thought that "Intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” For Damian Hardung, this quote feels apt, not only because he seems to be a bit of a quote lover himself as he nonchalantly sips on coffee in a white sleeveless tank, but also because much of our conversation centres around accepting that anything in life is, as Damian says, is “Not just A, it’s also B.”
As an actor, most known for his role as “toxic asshole” James Beaufort in Maxton Hall, and a medical student, Damian tells me about two entirely different worlds that broaden his lens. He talks about reconciling the head and the heart, working in both professions. Our issue is themed around hope, which is just that - the harmony of head and heart, reality and dreams. We can’t be all we want to be. We can’t experience every possible version of ourselves. But through acting, Damian can explore a world that feels limitless, even for a little while. We talk about his work with Greenpeace and keep coming back to the idea that we can all dream of the “possible positive tomorrows.”
