Inside Fashion Week with Sebastian

3 March 2012

January and February has seemed like a never-ending string of fashion weeks. And although watching from the side is both fancy and entertaining, what's it like being at the center of it all?

We caught up with Sebastian Sauve (Premier) after he's gone from Milan, to Paris, to New York and...frankly we started to loose track a little. Yet we've been glued to his wonderful updates of his experiences these past couple of months through his personal blog, Suave Like Sauve. Seeing everything from his perspective through his camera, has provided a unique insight to a models world. We asked him to share and summarise his back-to-back fashion week experiences over January and February for us, so enjoy his words and images below. To anyone who thinks modelling isn't hard work, we beg to differ.

Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice.

A Fashion Week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers, brands or "houses" to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers and the media to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, these events let the industry know what's "in" and what's "out" for the season.

A Model (from Middle French modèle) sometimes called a mannequin, is a person who is employed to display, advertise and promote commercial products (notably fashion clothing) or to serve as a subject of works of art.

Modelling (doubled "l" in British spelling, single "l" in American spelling, ) is distinguished from other types of public performance, such as an actor or mime artist, although the boundary is not well defined.

Put all that together, add castings, go sees, travel, bookings, hotels, parties, rendezvous, appointments, interviews, shows, editorials, shoots, rehearsals. Multiply all that in two weeks by five for all the fashion weeks back to back. Add in missed flights, hangovers, double bookings, arriving late and public transport! You have one massive fucked up trip of an experience. It's fun, an adventure, crazy, stressful, great but fucked up all at the same time. I was supposed to write this four weeks ago already, and haven't even realised it's been so long. Time is nothing any more. Sometimes it's hard to recall everything I've done in the last two years. On that same note, I wouldn't change it for the world par a few tweaks of course.
