"With eyes set towards the bright planes ahead, he skims his mind against the ripples of the tide. Searching for the memories of the familiar faces, and the nostalgic fragments of a village he knows so well."
Small towns often breed minds too bold to stay. Growing up in rural Ireland, Aidan Walsh at AMCK Models was a boy with escapism wired into his psyche from a young age. A list of intangible facts is what help define us all - where you take your first breath and find your part of the world, is one of those. Some destinations have more limitations than others and require more courage to strive. For him, dancing was a liberation to escape; with each pirouette, the chains of convention were loosened.
In his exclusive Issue 12 interview feature, photographer Michelle Marshall captures Aidan’s spirit as he embraces the British coastline. Looking out towards the water, through the waves of time and possibilities - his inner-mind circulates within the pages. It’s the bittersweet warmth of tracing what’s left behind; the familiar smiles and the winding roads that have lead him home so many times before. In those moments, he is stripped of the present.
Stylist Cynthia Lawrence-John subverts traditions of classic tailoring, updating them in playful prints and exaggerated sportswear motifs. When the reflections of dusk are bathed in the tenderness of orange light, there is a reassurance in his decision to leave home for the golden promises of London. Allowing the glow to radiate across his face, he steps forward towards his newfound audience - armed with the knowledge of perseverance against the odds. For each second spent basking in the glory, you must first accept the darkness of night.
