During our recently shoot with Simon Jennings (Amck) we took the opportunity to catch up with him to see what he's been up to lately. He talks university and mermaids (unconnected, just so that's said).
Simon was recently shot by Cecilie Harris for her series "The 4th Floor", so keep an eye out for the editorial that will be published in a few weeks time.
What are you up to at the moment?
Currently I'm at University of Leeds studying politics. Right now though I'm on my Easter holiday just chilling and seeing friends, and also going to Tobago for holidays very soon. And of course shooting with you today! It was quite new to me, as Cecilie pushed me outside my comfort zone which is nice. I have my comfort zone of how I model in front of the camera, and for this shot I wasn't aloud to do any of it. So I'm excited to see the images.
We thought you did really well!
Thanks man. haha
What inspires you and why?
I want to make myself better and keep improving. And I want to be less greedy with snacks. Like crisps. I'm greedy with them.
What do you do when you're not modelling?
I study, see friends and I like to go out. I'm having a lot of fun, uni is really good. Leeds is cool, except from the haircuts.
What would be your ultimate brand to work for?
Some big campaign in China, cause it would be seen by like a billion people. That would be cool. And you'd get a good trip out of it.
What's the best piece of advise you've ever had?
What defines you as a person is not what you become, it's what you overcome.
You're a male mermaid. Describe your typical weekend.
Probably go chill on a rock in Barbaidos. Catch some seafood, preferably crabs, and then make some garlic mayonnaise dip to go with it.
On your own?
Yeah, on my own. I'd have music though.
So a bit of a loner mermaid?
Yeh, I wouldn't want anyone around. I'm a mermaid. Hold on, there's more….. No, that's it actually. That's a pretty good day. Oh, and I'd also sleep in a hammock. Can mermaids walk on land? I wasn't quite sure how I'd get to my hammock. I'd wiggle up to it.
Cheers Simon, always a pleasure.
