Sibling x Topman

11 December 2013

When Topman partners with London based Sibling design trio - Joe Bates, Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreer - you know there is going to be some sort of magic happening. Just in time for Christmas, a fun knitwear collection launched 29th of November and is available online and in selected stores. After their Agi & Sam collaboration last year, we were excited to see what this Topman collaboration with Sibling would bring.

With a modern twist on the traditional Christmas jumper, including a variety of creative designs and a selection of beanies and scarves, Sibling's strength in innovative designs, sense of humour and quality knit is all present in this collection. The range consists of ten pieces; priced at £20 for the beanie, £40 for a scarf and £80 for the jumpers.

As a Scandinavian, growing up with all sorts of knitwear designs through my childhood and teenage years (I'll prove it later with images of me, my brother and all our cousins in my grandmother's hand-knitted and self-designed jumpers), I was particularly thrilled to see that the Christmas jumper not only lives on, but is celebrated by some of my favourite designers and modernised for today's youth. And although I should probably talk about Sibling and not my grandmother, the point I wanted to make is that what thrills my little heart is that the Sibling designers have such an admirable and innovative way of keeping the long tradition of knitwear craft fresh, cool and relevant for the current generation. This Topman colaboration being a great example of that.

In true Boys by Girls style, we brought in Peter Frampton at Supa Model Management to help us play with one of the fun designs and create our own little series of images to share with our readers. Peter wears a fun roll neck jumper in bold red and blue stripes and a "punk meets fisherman" Sibling Christmas creature, with a very soft and cosy black and white striped scarf. We went to the park, played with imaginary snow and felt all sorts of festivities and fun in our hearts. There were fights of who got to "look after" the scarf. Fights of the good kind. Meanwhile, somewhere in Scandinavia, the locals (including my grandmother) will be sitting in their warm living rooms wearing their cosy knitted jumpers and looking at this collection going "yeah!". We know we all want some magic this time of year, and we know want one of those jumpers! Dear Santa, I've been very good this year...

PS. Not sure why we always end up on a playground when doing a Topman special. Perhaps they simply bring out the fun in all of us. I'll keep letting that one swirl in the back of my head for a little while.
