Portraits of Bryant McCuddin

6 March 2019

Not only is this relaxed portrait series Haylee Barsky’s first piece for Boys by Girls, but also her first time photographing a boy - something which is certainly not obvious in this shoot with Bryant McCuddin at VNY Model Management. Haylee can be identified by her uncomplicated yet artistic shooting style and these images are no exception as they encapsulate an air of cool simplicity - from the casual styling to the unpretentious location of a high rise New York fire escape window.

Bryant was flown to New York and booked for Calvin Klein in his first week of modeling, after being discovered by the owner of VNY at an airport (à la Kate Moss). His stern yet smooth expression creates an atmosphere of calm, something which resonates throughout the whole series; Haylee’s use of soft natural light adds further to the unadorned feel of the shoot. Notably easy on the eye and boasting an effortless blend of portrait, fashion and artistic photography, the series is shot predominantly in black and white with a single tone of placid blue.

We love Bryant’s haunting look and this portrait series offers a simple reflection of the mid-Wester that we just can’t resist, and we’re sure you won’t be able to either.
