Christopher Raeburn SS18

6 March 2019

Genuine guy seeking genuine adventures. I like travelling, laughing and long walks on the beach at sunset. Or spending my Sunday evenings at a fashion show. Inspired by Slavomir Rawicz’s journey through the Gobi Desert and resulting novel ‘The Long Walk’, Christopher Raeburn's SS18 menswear/womenswear collection evoked sandy tracks and hot winds with the mascot of a desert rat adorning the clothes. Forget the sweat, overcome the unflattering exhaustion - this expedition was a sexy one.

With a touch of camo to hark back to the off-duty combat vibes of AW17, the neoprene sportswear was designed for a hazy summer using pioneering, lightweight materials. Mesh netting veiled the revealing, mischievous looks and the thin layers were ideal for the trek down the runway. Light grey was prominent and provided a base for the colour palette, with splashes of luminous orange highlighting the model’s high-vis neon eyeshadow that glinted beneath their practical bucket hats. Bands, straps and strips bordered the garments and dangled from the outfits; a closer look exposed Raeburn buzzwords (REMADE, RECYCLED, REDUCED) printed on them to remind us of the brand’s never-failing sustainable ethos.

As always, Raeburn proved to be a master of collaboration. The designer worked with EXKITE for their kite and parachute material, with Instrmnt on a new watch design and with Palladium for a new line of functional footwear. Truly a mission based on teamwork. Our third day of LFWM came to an end and we were feeling the first itches of fatigue - aching feet and too much caffeine. But just as our eyes were starting to sting, Christopher Raeburn came with a show that lifted our spirit. The spirit of adventure.
