Isaac Gracie for Issue 12

6 March 2019

An artist is as an artist does. Isaac Gracie creates music and it flows through his veins like paint would an artists, or words would a poet. His mother’s profession is just that and there is no doubt that there’s difficulty in growing up encased in mountains of books and not becoming enwrapped in the world of music and words. It makes complete sense that his thoughts have spilled onto the walls of his room in the form of doodles (literally, we have proof in the new SS17 issue) and into impactful songs. All his honesty is explosed in his EP ‘Songs in Black and White’. He gives all, but stripped back, not fleshed out - just Isaac and his guitar.

Photographer Sophie Mayanne captures him in the most comfortable of environments: his home. In black and white he is an artist at work, his talent frozen in each small space of the frame. In colour he is relaxed, himself, a 21 year old with all the thoughts that a young person experiences today. Vulnerable? Only because of society or only because the camera portrays him that way, it is left for you to discover.

He is surrounded by comfort in the garments Lulu Wentworth chooses; a jumper by Pringle of Scotland, a cardigan by CMMN SWDN - there is beauty in the woollen shields, native to the setting the Isaac finds himself in. Flowing shirts by Margaret Howell give him room to breathe, ponder and allow his mind to explore in the safety and warmth of his poetic home. In this open Music Diary in our latest print issue, you are allowed to wander the mind of this young artist.
