For those of you who havn’t bought your copy yet, we are bringing you a teaser of what you are missing from our newest issue “Lessons”. This series "Anders" sees photographer Georgie Wileman capture the forever compelling Anders Hayward in a set of subtle and bewitching images.
We first met Anders when Cecilie Harris photographed him in editorial ‘The Boy Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’. What struck her most about Anders was his ability to connect with the camera and tell a story through images. The beauty of Anders is that he is a creative soul, and as a dancer he creates art with his body and knows how to use his movements to portray emotion. He uses his dancing experience in his modeling, letting one feed the other, making each aspect stronger in its own right. This is what allows him to let go of his inhibitions and really encapsulate a character in a story. This is why we knew Anders was a "must-have" for this issue.
For this shoot Georgie talked to Anders about the best way to tell a story of Anders in this issue, and the result was to create a series of images that showcases not just his beauty, but his passion for dance as well. They ended up shooting at his studio in the London Contemporary Dance School. This allowed Georgie to capture Anders in his natural dance environment. Just him dancing through beautiful fluid movements, photographed in a stunning yet simple manner, merging documentary with portraiture.
Stylist Eilidh Greig kept the clothing simple yet stylish, putting Anders in comfy Nike and Sunspel sportswear, allowing him to be unrestricted with his movement. With the use of casual vests she manages to create a Billy Elliot type vibe, giving the illusion that Georgie has snuck into a rehearsal and captured what she found. This is just him and this is what he does.
With our new issue ‘Lessons’ we are breaking all the rules combining fashion with documentary and portraiture to capture stories. With Anders, he is a chameleon, he adapts to the direction a photographer wants to go in and changes his performance to suit that vision, but in this shoot it was his vision and his story to tell.
