The sun is crouched behind the clouds in the city of Amsterdam, blanketing pebbled paths below while the anticipated arrival of something electrifying bubbles in the air. The day is crisp with winter flourishing and awaiting the soft kiss of spring. Spinning leisurely, the earth slowly dances with time and space waiting patiently for a new waltz to begin. Waiting, waiting, waiting, like a lone person at a train station keeping watch for a loved one’s arrival back into their arms.
A worn building rises, rusted and chipped along the edge of a railway track. An abandoned station but still standing, still feeling the embraces of loved ones, still holding the breaths of waiting travellers, still reaching towards the sky in search of the sun to warm the earth for another day. The ground beneath trembles with the vibrations of the past arrivals and departures that have come and gone.
Some paths are already crossed and some paths will never cross again, the wind moves around the cool day with each gust, in and out of forgotten terrain. Absorbing the enigmatic energy in gripping shots, Heleen Wenniger photographs Mozher Kensmil tracing paths in lights and shadows, poised with born elegance and grace. Mozher styles himself in delicate reds, burnt oranges, and bright yellows compliment blazers and sweaters in neutral hues. Colour palettes reflect the day – contrasting pockets of warmth with cool corners of shaded space.
There is a train whistling in the distance, an ironic twist to the landscape and serene emptiness of the space. There is no train to jump on though, not here. We sit and ponder the wait, the arrival time, wondering when our own moment will be to follow the path ahead and embark on a journey of discovery. There is no lost time here, only the bountiful anticipation of the arrival.
