Sometimes we love things, and in addition to our Issue 10 release
this week, we are also obsessing about the pre fall McQ Swallow collection.
Clothes can make you feel both comfortable and cool at the same time, and our boy Marcus Sivyer stopped by the BBG Office to give some of his fave items from the McQ Swallow collection a test-run. Marcus is becoming one of our go-to boys when it comes to keeping up with cool things. Under the wing of Boys by Girls, he is appearing both behind and in front of the camera, bringing his fresh views, youthful wisdom and broad sense of humour. Feeling right at home in the handpicked items from the collection, he was hanging off ceilings and making up what we can only guess to be some sort of a rain dance.
With a new swallow emblem re-designed by Tom Tosseyn, the juxtaposition of romantic thoughts and the embedded skull-like eyes easily tempts your curiosity as it flies across the lambswool knits, tees and shirts of the collection. First appearing in McQueen’s iconic SS95 show, ‘The Birds’, the swallow print was emblazoned on strictly tailored separates and dresses within the collection, but the initial inspiration came from Hitchcock’s classic thriller which evoked a sense of road kill, as shadows of swallows darted darkly across pieces. The show captured the spirit of human vulnerability and terror under looming threat from the natural world, a recurring theme for McQueen.
Despite the dark inspiration for it’s birth, the swallow is portrayed in a much more lighthearted context on the garments of the collection. According to Marcus, the clothes were 'comfortable', 'cool' and 'casually edgy' which gives the collection a thumbs up from us.
